Phone check

PTA IMEI check

A handset that is not registered with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority can stop working on local networks. Buyers ask about it for good reason, and sellers are not always the best source of the answer.

What PTA registration means

PTA maintains the register that decides which handsets may connect to Pakistani mobile networks. A device outside it can lose service, which turns an expensive phone into something that only works on Wi-Fi.

Registration is a property of the device, not the SIM or the owner, so it follows the handset when it is resold. A phone blocked before you bought it is still blocked afterwards.

What Mobilo can tell you today

Mobilo shows the PTA status it holds for a device and names where that status came from: recorded by Mobilo staff, or declared by a vendor. Where it holds nothing, it says "not checked" rather than guessing.

Mobilo does not have automated access to PTA’s systems, and it does not scrape them. Being a partner to PTA is worth more than the data would be, so until formal access is granted, statuses are recorded by Mobilo staff and labelled as such.

Why "not checked" is the honest answer

It would be easy to show a green tick for every phone with no bad record attached. It would also be a lie by omission, and the person it would hurt is the buyer who trusted it.

An absent check is information. Mobilo renders it as its own state, in its own styling, so nobody mistakes silence for a pass.

Common questions

Does a clear Mobilo check mean PTA has approved the phone?
No. It means Mobilo has no record saying otherwise. Where Mobilo has actually confirmed a status, it says so and names who confirmed it.
Can Mobilo register a phone with PTA for me?
Not yet. PTA registration assistance is planned; today Mobilo reports status rather than changing it.
What if the seller says it is PTA approved?
That is worth knowing and it is not proof. Mobilo shows a vendor’s claim as "the seller’s word", visually distinct from anything Mobilo has verified itself.
