Phone check

IMEI check, Pakistan

Every phone has a 15-digit IMEI that does not change when the SIM does. Dial *#06# on the handset and it appears on screen. Mobilo checks that number against what it knows and shows you each answer separately, with where it came from.

How to find the IMEI

Dial *#06# on the phone. The IMEI appears immediately, without needing to unlock anything or install an app. On a dual-SIM handset two numbers appear — either one identifies the same device.

It is also printed on the box, under the battery on older handsets, and in Settings under About phone. If the number on the box does not match the number the phone reports, stop there and ask the seller why.

What a check tells you

Four things, kept separate, because they answer different questions and a phone can pass one and fail another. Whether it is registered with PTA. Whether anyone has reported it stolen to Mobilo. What condition it was graded in, if it has ever been inspected. And how many times it has been listed for sale.

Each answer shows its source. "The seller’s word" and "recorded by Mobilo staff" are both useful, and they are not the same thing, so Mobilo never renders them alike.

What it does not tell you

A clear result means no record has reached Mobilo. It is not a guarantee the phone is legally registered, and it is not proof nobody has lost it — a theft nobody reported leaves no trace anywhere. Mobilo shows "not checked" as its own state rather than dressing an absence up as a pass.

Nothing here replaces seeing the phone and the seller in person.

Common questions

Is the IMEI check free?
Yes. No account, no email, no limit worth worrying about. The checker is free because a trust tool that costs money at the moment of need is not a trust tool.
Does Mobilo store my IMEI?
Not the number itself. It is hashed before anything is written down, and only the last four digits are ever displayed. Mobilo cannot show a full IMEI to anyone who has not proved they own the device.
Can I check a phone I have not bought yet?
That is what it is for. Ask the seller to dial *#06# and check the number before any money changes hands.
